In the club's April 2025 Newsletter the club initiated "Rock Star of the Month". Rock stars of the month are members that best represents the club’s mission and has contributed to further the clubs goal.
This month, we’re proud to highlight Lucas Bush, one of our three dedicated shop foremen and shop teachers at FGCGMS.
Lucas has been in this role for over three and a half years, and in that time, he’s honed his skills to an impressive level. He’s learned from some of the best in the field, including former club president Sean Branigan, as well as current shop supervisors and mentors Steve Ackerman and Don Titman.
Like many young enthusiasts, Lucas’s love for rocks and minerals began in childhood, sparked by his grandfather—a fellow lapidary artist. From an early age, Lucas was fascinated by fossils and dinosaurs. His grandfather nurtured that curiosity by introducing him to fossil specimens and dinosaur bone cabochons, as well as the fundamentals of lapidary work. His parents supported his interest, often taking him to rock and crystal shops and gifting him his first rock tumbler. For years, Lucas collected stones, read about them, and experimented with tumbling. His journey took a major turn when he discovered our club and learned about the fully equipped workshop. There, he found a space to grow his skills, use saws and cabbing machines, and develop his craftsmanship in earnest.
Today, Lucas is our go-to expert when it comes to agates—especially identifying unique varieties. If you have a question or a special request for an agate cabochon, Lucas is the one to contact! Here
As you will see in the gallery below, Lucas’s talent shines through in every piece he creates. His cabochons are some of the most beautiful you’ll find, combining precision, passion, and an expert eye for detail. Here are but a small sampling. Enjoy! Contact Lucas at this email for any lapidary work that you need or wish to purchase!!
